MEMORY AND TRANSPOSITION TABLES The memory of MacChess has been put on 2000 K, but it can be changed with the infobox of the Finder to 2000 K or more, depending on your computer's memory. The number of kilobytes used influences the 'Transposition Table'. For example, if the memory used is 6000 K or 10000 K for transposition tables of 4000 or 8000 K, more search depth in the end game will be achieved. ============================================================================= WINDOWS If MacChess is started up for the first time, the position of the chess board is in the upper left corner of the screen. There are five more windows: • PV: Principal variation; this is the place for the main line. • Info: The following information is shown during the search: - score: the score from the point of view of MacChess: if the score is -M4, then MacChess can be checkmated in 4 moves. - depth: The first figure shows the search depth of MacChess and the second figure shows the highest search depth with extensions. - number mov: the number of moves that is examined; the second figure shows the number of moves minus the moves leading to a checkmate. - move: This show the move that is examined; the figure shows the move number that is searched. - eval.: The number of evaluated positions which are examined. - ev./sec.: The number of evaluations per second. - phase of the game: This shows the position of the game MacChess thinks it is; Opening game, Middle game or End game.
